{"id":10419,"date":"2012-12-09T20:31:26","date_gmt":"2012-12-10T01:31:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.kenperlin.com\/?p=10419"},"modified":"2012-12-09T22:23:48","modified_gmt":"2012-12-10T03:23:48","slug":"quantitative-reasoning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blog.kenperlin.com\/?p=10419","title":{"rendered":"Quantitative reasoning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m sure Edward Tufte spends fully 50% of his time patiently explaining to people that the ingenious graphical map elucidating Napoleon&#8217;s march on Russia and its ill-fated aftermath were, in fact, the work of <a href=http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Charles_Joseph_Minard target=1>Charles Joseph Minard<\/a> (1781-1870), not Edward Tufte himself, despite the inexplicable fact that Minard&#8217;s map appears as the most common result in a Google image search for &#8220;Tufte&#8221;.<\/p>\n<table cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0>\n<tr>\n<td align=right><a href=http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/2\/29\/Minard.png target=1>&nbsp;<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.kenperlin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/minard.jpg\"><\/a><br \/><small><i><b>(click to see larger image)<\/i><\/b><\/small><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<p>But does anybody listen?
