So I memorized the things I loved &#8212; the first fifteen digits of pi, <i>Jabberwocky<\/i>, <i>The Owl and The Pussycat<\/i>, <i>The Walrus and The Carpenter<\/i> and <i>Jenny Kissed Me<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Now, all of these years later, I can still easily recite all of those things from memory, as well as the lyrics to all of the songs I loved at that age.<\/p>\n<p>Over the years I have repeatedly tried learning more digits of pi, but they never quite stick &#8212; those added digits always fade after a week or two. But those first 15 digits are burned into my brain as clearly as the day I first learned them.<\/p>\n<p>What is it about our minds when we are young that allows us to memorize things so easily?
