The reason they come to us is not the reason we come to them.  And so we lull ourselves into thinking that because something makes sense in our own mind, it will also make sense in theirs.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, this is not the way the world works.  Not only do we need to understand that our friend is different from us, but we also need to be willing to risk separation from them, by saying: &#8220;No, the way you are being toward me does not honor my true self &#8211; you must recognize this boundary within me, even if it means little to you&#8221;.
